On Friday, November 29th, 2024 Sandro De Gregorio, Colegio Santiago Apóstol Cabanyal’s Erasmus+ coordinator and member of the Steering Committee of the Ecothings project, presented the project result at FabLab Romagna, located at Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico “Blaise Pascal” in Cesena (Italy).

The event was organised by Andrea Vaccari, programming teacher at ITT Pascal, Edoardo Savini, Fab Lab Romagna president and Fabrizio Margotta, Fab Lab Romagna vice president.

The event was attended by 25 teachers from ITT Pascal and IPSIA Comandini, both located in Cesena, including the headmaster of both schools, Mr. Sauro Profiri. Personnel from the University of Bologna was also present.

Sandro De Gregorio introduced Colegio Santiago Apóstol Cabanyal and explained the 3-year project development, delving into the smart house design, based on laser-cut and 3D printing, its hardware (Arduino and Blackberry chips, servos, sensors and connections) and software (Facilino for primary schools and Wyliodrin Studio for secondary schools).

The pedagogical pillar of the project, Lev Vygotsky’s Social Learning Theory, was analysed in depth, emphasising the work carried out during the two-year Eco-technological courses in Spain and Turkey, as well as the Second LTTA (students’ mobility in Spain), during which the Turkish secondary students taught the Spanish primary pupils how to build a fully operative smart house.

The dissemination channels, project website, MOOC (PR4) as well as the Technical and Pedagogical Guidelines (PR3) were described in detail, in order to deliver to the attendees all the relevant information necessary to replicate the project in other schools.

Toward the end of the event a group discussion was set up, in order to get feedback from the local teachers. Their impressions were extremely positive and congratulations for the project development and results were expressed to all the partners. During the discussion, possible future collaborations were considered between the local schools, the University of Bologna and Colegio Santiago Apóstol Cabanyal.
